Sandwich Magazine uses sandwich as a springboard to explore food culture. The second issue revolves around the Vietnamese sandwich Bánh mì and I was commissioned to write and illustrate a comic about Tofu, the underdog of Bánh mì.My briefing was to come up with a story with Tofu as main protagonist showing its dull life and I was given carte blanche aside from the preset colors.
Somehow this reminded me of dull beauty and workout routines which led me to an American-Psycho-meets-Tofu-recipe-idea.Tofu's monologue is based on Patrick Bateman's workout monologue. The end panel shows different types of Tofu.
